THE MYSTERIOUS NINETEEN EIGHT

There are only two set of people who can decode this, those who are obeying the clarion call and those who has diligently served their fatherland, even if their fatherland is yet to serve them.
Now I get that feeling of yours...
I bet you now know the code, the code that keeps a Nigerian youth alerted at the end of each month to stay glued to his phone (trust me it's that part of the month you wouldn't allow your phones to go flat... Lol) , the code that keeps a Nigerian youth worried when it's getting to 6th, 7th, 8th day of the new month.
Yes! I know you know what I'm talking about, of course "allawee"! The monthly allowance that an average Nigerian youth receives from the federal government for serving his fatherland.

There has been a vast rumour about an increment towards this meagre amount paid to each corps member. We even heard a promise from our then-presidential-aspirant, who is now our president who promised an increment....(maybe we'll wait for the increment like we are waiting for our Lord Jesus).
I'm not bothered about the increment or whatsoever, what I want to ask Mr. Federal government is a question we ex-corps members and corps members has being clamouring on, "Is this money blood money?!".... If you've not been there or you are not there you might want to question my question, feel free!
My father would say, if you've never been to war, when you watch it on T.V you will say war is "sweet".
If you've been (you are) there, you will know what I'm talking about.

I know one of the objectives of NYSC is to train a Nigerian youth on paramilitary activities which include strength, defence, endurance and sort of. Also to train a Nigerian youth on how to be capable of managing his/her life with a specific amount of income.
Now back to my question, is this allawee of a thing blood money?
I don't get it, you get the alawee, before you say JACK ROBINSON, it is finish! And yet our people expect us to make savings.
I know some Youth would say "at all at all na him bad pass" Yes it's true. But let's be diplomatic, and not to be irrational about this.
All fingers are not equal, that is one fact you need to understand. Some youths still get their monthly allowances from their parents at home, no matter how little. But a situation whereby you know your family background, definitely is out of the point.
Out of the #19800, you are meant to feed both yourself and your phone(s), send some home, you are meant to pay house rent- I know some of you would say  "but there is corpers' lodge... Yes there are corpers lodges in SOME PPA, but the question is what is the state of the corpers lodge?
Like me, where I served apart from the fact that our corpers lodge is a dilapidated building that was thrown inside a forest (Note: there is difference between bush and forest), where snakes dances "Skelewu" at your windows. The lodge is situated at the outskirt of the village where, if you shout and scream at the top most pitch of your voice, not even a bird would hear you, talk more if they kill someone there, they won't find the person's corpse for complete  two months. Even if nothing kills you, boredom would! Now tell me, do you still expect such a youth to stay with such conditions?
This 19,8 really should be looked into because, before you even receive the money it has finished already, wonder what happened? Ask a corps member and he will narrate a Nollywood script for you right where you both are standing...
As MI said in his song ".. Money slow to enter, where money dey go I don't know".
I just pray our leaders who always tell us we are the leaders of tomorrow would make our today befitting.
Even if they wouldn't consider anuthing, they should consider the risk and life threatening situations every corps members is FORCEFULLY WITHOUT OPTION placed into his hands. Corpers are always at the receiving end of any societal upsurge.

No matter what, we'll still continue to obey the clarion call diligently to serve our Fatherland.
Let's stand on our feet to sing the anthem...

... Youth obey the clarion call,
Let us lift our nation high,
Under the sun or in the rain,
With dedication and selflessness,
Nigeria's ours, Nigeria we serve!!!
