MISS CRIMINAL BEAUTY PAGEANT

The world today is brimming with beauty pageants,from Miss World to Miss Universe, Miss Nigeria, Miss Abuja, Miss USA, in fact Miss Ikotun, Miss Gloryland,  but one of the most unusual is The annual Miss Criminal 2015 beauty pageant, which was held at the Talavera Bruce women’s prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The winner was Michelle Rangel, a 27-year-old lady who is serving 39 years for robbery. She also has an additional 6 years for prostitution.

The Talavera Bruce women’s prison is Brazil’s only maximum security prison for women. It is home to the country’s most serious female offenders.

According to organizers, the aim of the pageant is to give a boost to the self-esteem of female prisoners. The Miss Criminal pageant is supported by various religious and community groups.

The female prisoners who put on different dresses for the competition are styled by volunteers. Observers liken their poses to the kinds found in the famous Miss World beauty pageant.
